Profile
John Baumann earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in sociology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and he has held significant roles in both academia and private research institutes. His previous experience includes Associate Vice President for Research Compliance at Indiana University, where his oversight included the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses, as well as its five regional campuses and affiliated hospitals. He also served as Vice Provost for Research at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and as Deputy Executive Director at the National Development and Research Institutes (NDRI), a leading behavioral science research organization. His work at NDRI, which focused on critical public health issues such as substance abuse and HIV/AIDS, reinforced his strong understanding of the intersection of research, ethics and community impact.
In addition to his leadership roles, Baumann is a recognized authority in the research compliance and integrity field. His professional activities have included serving as a site visitor for more than 20 years and former Council member for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). He has also served multiyear terms as a member of the American Association of Medical College’s Forum on Conflict of Interest Steering Committee, a co-Chair of Education and Professional Development Committee of the Society for Research Administrators International, and member of the Plenary and Keynote Planning committee for Public Responsibility in Research & Medicine annual conferences.
Baumann has worked with numerous universities, hospitals and organizations in the United States and abroad, in particular Asia and Africa, to ensure compliance with ethical research standards.
