Training Grant Administration System (TGAS)

UC San Diego is building a web-based data driven application called TGAS (Training Grant Administration System).  This system allows authorized UCSD employees the ability to securely access campus data on students, faculty, staff, and contract/grant activity.  This data is then stored in TGAS and can be exported into specific formats like those required by the National Institutes of Health Institutional Research Training Grants.

In exchange for accepting training grant funds, the University is often required to provide the sponsor with a broad range of academic and financial data about its training and research activities.  In order to accomplish this, TGAS provides users access to relevant data about employees, students and grant activity across a range of academic areas (e.g. the total number of ladder-rank faculty in the home department of a faculty mentor participating in a given training grant).

Departments involved in the development of TGAS include Research Affairs, the School of Medicine Dean's Office, the Office of Graduate Studies, the Office of Contract and Grant Administration, and various academic departments engaged in graduate & postdoctoral training activities.

The TGAS development team anticipates releasing a Beta version of TGAS during the first part of April, 2008.  For additional information please visit the TGAS project website (UCSD only) or contact Jason DeFay (jdefay@ucsd.edu / 858-534-3556).
