Welcome to UCSD's searchable research funding opportunities database (SURF). This database contains a comprehensive list of funding opportunities available at UCSD. As opportunity announcements are received at Research Affairs, they are entered into this on-line and publicly searchable database.

Artistic PursuitFunding for the presentation of artistic work, for example a performance, exhibit, or film or video production
CollaborationFunding for any collaborative activity between people working at two or more institutions or in two or more disciplines
ContractFunding for an agreement to conduct a specific project or task with stated outcomes (as opposed to a general research effort or program development)
Dissertation or ThesisFunding for research or other activities related to the completion of a doctoral dissertation or graduate thesis
Fellowship Training or ScholarshipFunding in the form of scholarships, internships, fellowships, specialized training that advances the individual's knowledge of the area, not the area itself
Meeting or Conference or SeminarFunding to either attend or organize a meeting, conference or seminar
OtherLoan forgiveness and other miscellaneous programs
Postdoctoral AwardFunds or other awards for individuals who have recently received PhDs to perform research or study, usually under the guidance of a mentor, but sometimes not in the humanities or social sciences.
Prize or AwardMonetary or other awards presented in recognition of past or current accomplishments in the arts, sciences, or humanities
Program or Curriculum Development or ProvisionFunding to develop or provide a program to benefit the public, or to develop or provide a curriculum, a course, or other types of training or instruction for the public or for those in a traditional educational setting.
ResearchFunding for activity that increases overall knowledge about a field
RetreatFunding to promote scholarly writing, associations and/or the production of creative works in residence at another institution or location
Visiting PersonnelFunding to either be or host a visiting expert
