On January 20, 2012, NIH announced the new stipend levels for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA) made with FY 2012 funds. The new annual minimum is $39,264 for newly hired postdoctoral scholars. The NIH announcement is found online at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-033.html.  Pursuant with the Postdoctoral Scholars’ MOU between the University of California and the UAW union, Article 4, Compensation, effective February 1, 2012, the new rates will apply when a Postdoctoral Scholar is newly appointed or reappointed. The new UC Postdoc Salary/Stipend Scale is available at http://www.ucop.edu/acadpersonnel/1112/table23.pdf.

This program is intended for new postdocs (or continuing postdocs) and it is strongly recommended that postdocs attend the workshop within the first two months of their initial appointment so they become familiar with the guidelines and policy that impact their appointment. The presentation will include information about benefits and welfare programs, tax withholding obligations, visa policy, navigating the campus, research-related resources, and professional development opportunities and activities. In addition, representative(s) from the UAW will give a brief presentation at 1:30.
