The Office of Postdoctoral Scholars Affairs (OPSA) is commited to enhancing your postdoctoral experience by offering various opportunities for career development. Here is the current schedule of workshops for the 2006-07 academic year.
Performance Training for Effective Public Speaking
This workshop is designed to increase effectiveness and build confidence when making a presentation, whether in the classroom, seminar, conference or job colloquia. Each sesssion will meet 6 times and is limited to 6 participants so that each person will receive personal and constructive feedback throughout the workshop. Please note that this is not an English language course.

San Diego Lab Management Symposium
This two-day workshop will offer senior postdocs and junior faculty an opportunity to discover one's management and leadership style, navigate the university structure and tenure process, understand what it takes to manage a lab, and learn time management skills. The workshop will be limited to 140 participants from Burnham, TSRI, Salk, and UCSD.

- Where: Salk Research Institute

OTHER UCSD TRAINING PROGRAMS
UCSD Center for Teaching Development
If you are interested in pursuing a teaching career, CTD offers a variety of workshops on public speaking, classroom management, designing course syllabi, as well as a series called Preparing Professional Faculty (PPF). The workshops are open to all graduate students, postdocs and new faculty.
Research Ethics Program
The Research Ethics Program offers several workshops and seminars on ethics and survival skills in academia, scientific integrity, and research ethics. The ethics component of the survival skills course can be used to satisfy the NIH training grant requirement for instruction in the responsible conduct of research.
Extension
Extended studies offers a wide array of learning, career enhancing or transition courses, including English Language studies and Project management.
