Coeus is an Electronic Research Administration system developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and named after the Greek Titan of Intelligence.
Created to assist the research community in proposal development and pre- and post-award management, the purpose of the system is to standardize, and increase the efficiency of award acquisition and administration for all participants contributing to the research enterprise.
The Coeus Consortium is made up of 38 member institutions including UC San Diego.
- Coeus Consortium members received over $23 billion in NIH awards in 2005.
- Coeus Consortium members spent nearly $43 billion in Research and Development in federal fiscal year 2004.
- As a whole, Coeus Consortium members accounted for 22% of all the Research and Development expenditures by colleges and universities in 2004, and 15% of NIH funds awarded in 2005.
